Telecom & Wireless Testing

Telecommunications equipment (also telecoms devices or communications equipment) is a specific of product which is used for the purposes of telecommunications. Since many decades the barrier between telecoms equipment and IT products has become overlapping usages as a result of the growth of the internet and its increasing use in the transfer of telecoms data or in simple words as data communication.
The accredited Alpha Lab has been approved forTesting of Telecom Devices, Equipment & Accessories under the Indian Standard IS 13252 in Electronics & IT Equipment by covering the requirements of TEC (Telecom Engineering Centre) under Ministry of Telecom. The existing test facility of Lab Alpha was expanded to cover the specified requirements as per TEC Test Specifications/Standards & Test Protocols (TSTP) that mainly cover Electronics Safety and EMI/EMC Compliance for Telecom Devices/Products/Accessories.
The accredited test facility of Lab Alpha was designated as CAB (Conformity Assessment Body) by TEC(Telecom Engineering Center) DOT(Department Of Telecom) Govt. in India, to examine Telecom Devices’ Operation, Performance & Safety. The facility also includes EMC Compliance required for TEC including CISPR 11 and CISPR 22, CISPR 32, ITU Standard Testing and for all the Telecom Equipment.

As per the recent past Gazette notification by DOT, TEC , the Telecom equipmebts were brought under the regulatory compliance and ambit of Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecom Equipment, prior to sale/import/use in the country, under Department of Telecommunications. In this case all the telecom equipments manufacturers are required to undergo registration of TEC by getting their telecom products tested from TEC approved Labs as CABs. The approved labs will test and certify the telecom equipments for conformance to TEC specified standards/requirements. The ER(Essential Requirements) are obliged to be complied for the requirements of certification as per the regulations, for the following:

  • • General Requirements: Safety & EMC

  • • Security Requirements

  • • Technical Requirements

Alpha Test House has been approved as designated agency of TEC as Conformity Assessment Body (CAB) for Safety and EMI/EMC Testing of Telecom Equipment, by Telecom Engineering Center (TEC), DOT, Govt. of India.

Wireless Devices

A wireless device or smart device is an electronic device, generally connected to other devices or networks via different wireless protocols (such as Bluetooth, Zigbee, near-field communication, Wi-Fi, NearLink, Li-Fi, or 5G) that can operate to some extent interactively and autonomously. Several notable types of smart devices are smartphones, smart speakers, smart cars, smart thermostats, smart doorbells, smart locks, smart refrigerators, phablets and tablets, smar-watches, smart bands, smart key-chains, smart glasses, and many others. The term can also refer to a device that exhibits some properties of ubiquitous computing, including—although not necessarily—machine learning.
These wireless/Smart devices can be designed to support a variety of products under interoperability compatibility, a range of properties pertaining to ubiquitous computing and to be used in three main system environments: physical world, human-centered environments, and distributed computing environments. Smart homes indicate the presence of sensors and some detection devices, appliances, and a database to control them.

Wireless devices have found its wider applications across variety of very high tech products (Keyboard, Scanners, Laptops, and Printers etc.) to very low-end products including electronic toys. Many products operated on electrical power, can be operated through the wireless devices namely Wi-Fi routers/modems, wireless mouse, wireless keyboard, wireless headphones, wireless smart watches. Therefore safety is also a matter of healthconcern since it radiates certain amount of power. To address this issue, Alpha lab has also added test facility as per WPC(Wireless Planning and Coordination) requirements under ETA(Equipment Type Approval) to examine operations, performance and safety of wireless devices. The EMC/EMI test lab facility would also cover tests on various low power wireless devices are being widely used in the Electronic & IT where Electro-magnetic compliance is obligatory to comply as per WPC requirement products for satisfactory remote operations as per IS/IEC/EN/WPC/TEC requirements.
The current Alpha test facility is covering testing of Wireless & related devices as per WPC, of Ministry of Communication & Information Technology requirements for all wireless equipments, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth devices covering Wi-Fi routers/modems, wireless mouse & keyboard and headphones, wireless smart watches, Wi-Fi USBs, pen-drives, wireless speakers, etc. Alpha Lab has the test facility as per WPC open to the domestic & overseas manufacturers who plans to sell their products in India after getting tested and obtaining approval from WPC
